"The highest education is that which does not merely
give us information but makes our life in harmony
with all existence."
- Rabindranath Tagore
Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer in women after skin cancer, with one in eight diagnosed with the disease during their lifetime. Men are not immune either, with a risk rate for contracting the disease at about one in one thousand. Breast cancer can be genetic, devastating families for generations. Victims of the disease are not alone, however; the fight to combat breast cancer has become a worldwide cause, with ongoing campaigns to raise awareness and funding for medical research.
This October, thousands of individuals and businesses such as Homes & Land will join together to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout the month, they will don the iconic pink ribbon, the international symbol for breast cancer awareness, and take part in walks and runs around the world in order to bring attention to this deadly disease, and to show support for its victims and their families. The monies raised will go towards breast cancer research, as well as provide services for patients.
For some time now, Homes & Land and their affiliates have been committed to helping raise breast cancer awareness by sponsoring local and national causes to combat the disease and donating towards fighting for a cure. This year, Homes & Land corporate offices as well as their many franchises around the nation will once again continue with their efforts against the disease during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by supporting the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
Since their first “Homes & Land Cares” Pink campaign in 2014, the company has shown their support for breast cancer awareness by displaying iconic pink ribbon graphics on the cover and inside pages of its magazines, made possible by the generous donations of many local advertisers and the company’s nationwide group of publishers. The pink ribbons will once again be on display in Homes & Land magazines around the country this October.
Susan G. Komen is the largest non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research. Supported by individual donations and by corporate partnerships with companies like Homes & Land, the organization holds multiple fundraising events around the nation throughout the year, including the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the 3-Day, 60-mile walk to support the fight against breast cancer.
As organizations like Susan G. Komen and companies such as Homes & Land join forces to combat breast cancer through campaigns to raise awareness and funding for medical research, the mortality rate from the disease has continued to decline over the past few decades. Those decreases are considered to be the result of medical advances and increased awareness of the disease.
